Move for Hunger

The Problem

Moving forces people to make a number of difficult decisions about what they can and can’t take with them. In those frenzied days of wrapping, packing, and figuring out whether or not that dresser is really going to make it up the stairs, many folks often neglect to consider what they’re going to do with all the food stored in their cupboards and pantries. Too often, these perfectly good items are thrown away or left behind. In a nation where hunger affects nearly 50 million Americans, this is simply unacceptable.

What We Do

Move For Hunger is a non-profit organization that mobilizes the relocation industry to fight hunger and reduce food waste. We work with companies across North America to collect unwanted, unopened food from people who are relocating and deliver it to local food banks. Our network, which includes over 600 moving companies, thousands of real estate professionals & many corporate housing and relocation companies, has delivered over six million pounds of food to food pantries across North America.

How You Can Help

Move For Hunger offers makes it easy to donate your food when you move! If you’re relocating, use our Find A Mover tool to book one of our professional movers who will offer to deliver your non-perishable food donations to a local food bank at no additional charge. We can also help match you with a socially responsible real estate partner who will share what you can spare in the communities they serve. These simple solutions will help make a difference in the lives of millions of hungry people across North America.

Let’s End Hunger Together

One in seven Americans, including over 20% of children, are unsure of where they will find their next meal. The problem isn’t a lack of food; we’re producing more than enough to feed every person in the United States. There are a number of reasons to explain this contradiction, food waste being near the top of the list. Consider, for example, that the USDA recently estimated that 31% of the food supply in the United States ends up wasted. That’s a deeply troubling statistic, but it also presents us with an incredible opportunity to help our neighbors in need.

Move For Hunger is honored to be a part of the Relola Cares program. Together we can rescue unwanted food, raise awareness and, ultimately, help end hunger once and for all.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English.
